14 September, 2017 11:00 - 13:00
The Willem de Kooning Academy and Kunsthal Rotterdam present the fourth in a series of masterclasses by exceptional artists exclusively for students. After the photographer Peter Lindbergh, the artist Jordy van den Nieuwendijk and the photographer Erwin Olaf, it is now the turn of the choreographer Conny Janssen.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Conny Janssen Danst, the Kunsthal is presenting ‘Conny Janssen Danst 25’ from 9 September to 1 October, offering a unique insight into the work of one of the most prominent and innovative modern dance companies in the Netherlands. During the masterclass Conny Janssen will go into the creative process. There will be every opportunity for discussion with students from the various art and dance academies.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS FROM THE INSIDE
During the masterclass, Conny will reveal the core of the creative process. The topics to be covered are not confined to the discipline of choreography, but also extend to the choices that have to be made in choreography and the relevant criteria for arriving in the end at an artistically high-quality production. What is the field of tension between Conny’s imaginative process and the spark of inspiration from her dancers? When is something ‘ready’? The masterclass goes into what is normally hidden from everyone: the creative process of the celebrated choreographer Conny Janssen.
After the masterclass there will be an opportunity to view the exhibition ‘Conny Janssen Danst 25’ in the Kunsthal.
