On Friday 5 May, the Kunsthal organizes a special edition of KunstKoppels themed 'Rotterdam Freedom Meals' in cooperation with the Zonnebloem and Sagènn. During KunstKoppels you will meet someone in the Kunsthal who is completely new and unknown to you. Someone from another generation, or with a different background or lifestyle. Sign up, visit the exhibition Patricia Piccinini. Metamorphosis and start a conversation about art.... and each other! Afterwards, a bowl of Freedom Soup will be waiting for all participants in the Kunsthal Café where there is enough room to keep the conversation going. Be quick, since there is a limited number of tickets available.
With her almost life-like, yet alienating sculptures, Piccinini explores whether it is possible for human beings, nature, and technology to co-exist in harmony. Her fairytale creatures pluck at our heart strings, evoking empathy for ‘otherness’. With her art, Piccinini imagines a possible shared future and asks questions like: What does it mean to be human? With her cyborgs as well as her other creatures she blurs the lines between organic and technological bodies.Encounter hybrids between humans and animals: furry, friendly creatures embracing each other, and fascinating beings that you have never seen before, but somehow still recognise. Allow yourself to be surprised by Piccinini’s surrealistic fantasy world.
