Art & Architecture Tour

On Sunday 18 June, national Architecture Day, Kunsthal Rotterdam and nhow Rotterdam are joining forces to organise the Art & Architecture Tour. Your guided tour (Dutch spoken) will start at the Kunsthal and will, of course, include an adventurous jump onto the ‘Giant Billiard’ in the exhibition Mind Expanders. The guide will then take you to nhow, located in De Rotterdam on the Wilheminakade wharf. Just like the Kunsthal, this prominent building was designed by the world-famous architect Rem Koolhaas. On its beautiful terrace, high above the river Maas, the tour will be concluded with a ‘cocktail with a view’.
The guide will lead you past various artworks and objects at a high pace, criss-crossing through the Kunsthal, while at the same time encouraging you to look at the extraordinary building from a different perspective. The highlight of the exhibition Mind Expanders has to be the legendary installation Giant Billiard. On this white air cushion – measuring 14 by 14 metres and with three giant inflatable balls on top – anyone taller than 120 centimetres (4 feet) is invited to come and play, bounce, climb, and dance. On its springy surface, you will become part of an environment without clearly defined rules of play and codes of conduct. Through the game that is played as a result, the architect’s collective Haus-Rucker-Co raises questions about how our physical environment affects the ways in which we interact with each other.
Cocktail with a view
The tour continues with a stroll to the Kop van Zuid neighbourhood, where you are introduced to the surprising architecture of nhow Rotterdam in ‘the vertical city’ De Rotterdam. Here the tour will be festively concluded with a cocktail –and a spectacular view of the Erasmus bridge!
