Every third Friday of the month, you're welcome at the Kunsthal for an exciting and inspiring programme infused with a generous dose of art. All exhibitions are open until 22:00 hrs and each edition is curated by a different Rotterdam-based partner. On Friday 21 November, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music will be pulling the strings. The exhibition They have always been here from artist Kudzanai-Violet Hwami serves as the source of inspiration for this vibrant evening.
Pretty Girls Like Trap Music (PGLTM) is the Netherlands’ first women+ only Hip Hop party created from an urge for a safer space for women+ and bringing together like-minded individuals for their love of hip-hop. For this edition of Friday Night LIVE all genders are welcome.
PGLTM dives into the theme (NOT) JUST A GIRL: performing modern girlhood and identity during Friday Night LIVE. Through this program, PGLTM explores how the label “just a girl” — often used online — flattens the complexity, nuance, and ambiguity of being a woman.

Talk by Kim Dankoor
Commercial rap music acts as both a mirror and a maker of modern masculinity and femininity. Researcher Kim Dankoor explores how young men and women in the US and the Netherlands interpret the gender and beauty ideals in rap music — and what this means for their self-image and identity.
Kudzanai-Violet Hwami
They have always been here is the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by Zimbabwean artist Kudzanai-Violet Hwami (b. 1993). Specially for this occasion, Hwami is creating new work, including layered paintings, digitally reworked photographs, and her very first bronze sculptures. With rich, saturated colours, personal photographs and archival material, she draws attention to people who have often been rendered invisible in history – in particular queer people of colour within the African diaspora. During Friday Night LIVE Hwami gives a short introduction about her exhibition.

Bites & drinks
During Friday Night LIVE, the tastiest bites are back on the menu. And are you coming to the Kunsthal with your Friday Night LIVE ticket between 17:00 and 19:00 hrs? Then a complimentary welcome drink (wine, beer, or soda) will be waiting for you!
