Friday Night LIVE

Start your weekend with Friday Night LIVE! On each third Friday of the month you will be welcome at the Kunsthal for bites&drinks, music&performances, and above all for an exciting and inspiring programme infused with a generous dose of art. For each edition a different Rotterdam partner will be running the show. On Friday, 16 February it is the turn of Spraakuhloos. The exhibition Ai Weiwei. In Search of Humanity is the inspiration for special performances based on the theme of humanity.

For Friday Night LIVE, the Kunsthal will hand over the keys and offer a platform to a Rotterdam partner active in the fields of film, spoken word, dance, music, fashion, and theatre. Alongside a vibrant programme, all exhibitions will remain open until 22:00 hrs. Join in and watch, listen, party, and mingle, and kick off your weekend with Friday Night LIVE X Spraakuhloos.

During Friday Night LIVE, the tastiest bites and cocktails from Williams Cocktails are back on the menu. And are you coming to the Kunsthal with your Friday Night LIVE ticket between 17:00 and 19:00 hrs? Then a complimentary welcome drink (wine, beer, or soda) will be waiting for you.

Open Mic XXL Edition 

Spraakuhloos once started as an open stage for word art and continues to provide a stage for new talent today. Want to know what it's like to be on a stage for the first time, want to try something new or gain more stage experience? Anything goes! During Friday Night LIVE, the stage is open all evening. The open stage is not just for spoken word. Do you write beautiful essays, are you a rapper, beginning cabaret performer or blow everyone away as a beatboxer: everyone is welcome! The theme of the performances is 'humanity'. The Open Mic XXL Edition is fully booked.

Jowi Len Kemper
Grab a headset and listen - while viewing the exhibition Ai Weiwei. In Search of Humanity - to a recitation by Jowi Len Kemper. Jowi Len Kemper (she/her) is a spoken word artist and copywriter. Her projects are often related to the Cross-Cultural experience and touch on themes relating to identity. She aspires to build bridges with her stories, shaped by the perspective of a Third Culture Kid and South-East Asian woman.

Ai Weiwei. In Search of Humanity

Kunsthal Rotterdam is proud to present a large-scale exhibition by one of today’s most prominent artists, the activist, and critic of authoritarian power systems Ai Weiwei. In Search of Humanity is his most comprehensive retrospective to date. Including paintings, cultural ready-mades, works made from LEGO bricks, sculptures, installations, photography, and video works, the exhibition presents an impressive overview of Ai Weiwei's over-four-decades-spanning career and features key works from all his different creative periods.
