14 July, 2017 20:00 - 01:00

The Kunsthal Rotterdam and Operator Radio are joining forces on Friday 14 July for The Perfect Night. From 8 pm till 1 am you can enjoy high-profile interviews, the controversial photography of Robert Mapplethorpe and a great DJ line-up: Electronic Emergencies, Hollywood & Vine, Jeff Solo en Palmbomen II.

The exhibition ‘Robert Mapplethorpe, a perfectionist’ is the impressive setting for a broadcast of the young, Rotterdam - based online radio platform Operator. Together with the Kunsthal they will programme a night full of art, music and special guests. The life and work of Robert Mapplethorpe – one of the most influential artists and photographers of the 20th century – forms the centre of The Perfect Night. With his photography and personality – intense and insistent – Mapplethorpe breaks down the bounderies between life and art.

Palmbomen II

Palmbomen II (Kai Hugo) produces and plays (electronic) music. In 2015 he released his first full length album on New York based label Beats In Space Records. This year he will release the tetralogy “Memories Of Cindy” on the same label. Four EP’s with accompanying video’s, which will also be produced by himself. In 2016 he made the EP’s ‘Center Parcs’ and ‘Hotel Breukelen’, that came out on the Canadian label 1080p and Rotterdam based label Pinkman.
During his dj sets Palmbomen mixes new releases with old house/new beat/electro/wave, own edits and unreleased tracks from his friends.

Electronic Emergencies

Electronic Emergencies is a record label from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was founded in 2014 by Spacemaker and Leather E., two DJs who have their roots in electronic music. They both love electronic sounds and melancholy melodies and are not bound to any style. In their radio show Spacemaker and Leather E will play the music they play at home, spin in the club and release on their label.

Hollywood & Vine

Based in Rotterdam & The Hague, you could say the West Coast sound of Holland is in their blood. They were brought up with the legendary sounds of MTC, Nighttown, Parkzicht, Bunker Records and Now & Wow. Their love for disco, wave and house is infinitive and they go by a ‘natural selection’ when it comes to music. These power ladies are dance-floor minded, but there is also a dark, mysterious and melancholic side to what they do.

Jeff Solo

The talented musical artist Jeff Solo -  co-founder of Radio Operator - has been steadily working as a DJ, producer and event programmer for the better part of a decade. With a wide range of genres at his disposal like House, Disco, Pop, Rock, Wave and Hip-Hop, Jeff is able to move crowds in any direction, while also keeping close ties with the art scene in Rotterdam.
