The Perfect Night

Kunsthal Rotterdam and Operator join forces on Friday 29 March for The Perfect Night. After fantastic past editions to celebrate photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, hyperrealist sculptures and fashion artists Viktor&Rolf, this time you can enjoy an encounter by night with the exciting, contemporary art from the collection of the founder of Mexx Rattan Chadha. TThe more than seventy works by international artists are focused on the human condition. From sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll to deep melancholy and abstraction: Trouble in Paradise! Enjoy a live talk show with special guests amid the works of art and performances by artist Folkert de Jong. Afterwards you can join the party in the Kunsthalcafé with DJ Pohon, Rem Gow and Vic Crézée until 02:00 hrs

From 20:00 to 23:30 hrs the exhibition ‘Trouble in Paradise’ will be the setting for a special broadcast of the Rotterdam online radio platform Operator. Host of the evening is the Operator presenter Samira Ben Messaoud. One of her guests is visual artist Anouk Kruithof (1981), who is regarded as being at the cutting edge of contemporary photography for her experimental approach and critical view of the world. Anouk considers the medium from the most diverse angles and her works assume many forms, from photocollages to video animations, installations, sculptures, publications and performances. Her work Sweaty Sculpture (2015) can be seen in the exhibition.

Sinister

Sacha Bronwasser (1968) is an art historian, author, speaker and curator with a multi-faceted practice in which contemporary art is central. She is editor and host of the Amsterdam art talk show Stampa and is working on her first novel, which will be published by Ambo/Anthos in September 2019.

Another guest is Folkert de Jong (1972). His brightly coloured figures made of polyurethane foam feature in leading collections, including the Saatchi Collection London, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. He shows a preference for disturbing, sinister or even horrible themes; the historical events that he represents are often of a dramatic kind. This edition of The Perfect Night is the décor for an art performance and album presentation by Folkert de Jong with Upfront.
