GUIDED TOUR hall 2 | Sylvie Fleury. yes to all
30 MARCH UNTIL 8 SEPTEMBER 2024
In the spring of 2024, Kunsthal Rotterdam is presenting a large-scale exhibition of the work of the Swiss artist Sylvie Fleury (1961, Geneva). For the very first time her provocative installations, sculptures, ready-mades, and paintings will be shown in the Netherlands. In a playful way, Fleury challenges the cultural constructs of gender stereotypes. She uses modern advertising strategies such as attention-seeking slogans, brightly coloured neon lights, and seductive presentations to explore the boundaries between contemporary art and consumerism. Incorporating elements from the worlds of fashion and film, pop culture, and art history, Fleury consistently succeeds in creating unexpected new stories, always infused with a generous dose of humour and individuality!
GUIDED TOUR HALL 1| Richard Avedon. Relationships
1 JUNE UNTIL 6 OCTOBER 2024
This summer, Kunsthal Rotterdam is presenting a large-scale retrospective of the American photographer Richard Avedon (1923-2004). With over a hundred and thirty photographs, the exhibition Richard Avedon: Relationships sheds light on Avedon’s groundbreaking contribution to fashion photography as well as his distinctive photographic portraits. His powerful, expressive portraits capture people like the writer Truman Capote, the actress Marlene Dietrich, the musician Bob Dylan, the artist Andy Warhol, and the actress and model Nastassja Kinski. Relationships is a celebration of Avedon's innovative power and creativity and shows how the photographer was able to convey the complexity and vulnerability of human relationships in the photographic frame like no other.
