De radio heeft in Zuidelijk Afrika veel meer invloed dan in de westerse wereld. Met de radio kun je in Zuid-Afrika 99% van de mensen bereiken, met de tv hooguit 30%. De radio is daardoor niet alleen de belangrijkste bron van informatie, maar beïnvloedt ook het politieke leven in Zuid-Afrika.

Hoewel de bontgekleurde radio's allemaal hun functie hebben behouden en een prachtig helder geluid voortbrengen, zijn ze vooral bedoeld om naar te kijken.
In de spectaculaire tentoonstellingsvormgeving van Fumi Hoshima hangen ze al spelend aan zacht verende stalen draden, terwijl de meest bewerkelijke en kwetsbare werken op zwevende plateaus worden tentoongesteld.
De radio's laten een dwarsdoorsnede van de Zuid-Afrikaanse cultuur zien.
