This autumn the Kunsthal Rotterdam presents the spectacular exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime. Friends of the Kunsthal can be the first to visit this dazzling retrospective during the preview exclusively reserved for them. After an introduction by guest curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot and an inspiring talk by Matthias Harder, head curator of the Helmut Newton Foundation, you will be able to admire the different worlds of the undeniably artistic figure – visionary couturier, director, photographer and perfumer Thierry Mugler.
Innovative and rebellious, Thierry Mugler has been able to surprise everyone with his extraordinary creations for almost fifty years. The exhibition offers a dive into his singular imagination, to encounter by turns his perfectionism, Hollywood-style prestige, dreams, exotic creatures, eroticism, and science fiction. ‘Thierry Mugler: Couturissime’ brings together more than 150 ensembles, most of them on display for the first time, created between 1977 and 2014, as well as many never-before seen accessories and stage costumes, clips and videos, archival documents and sketches.
Talk by Matthias Harder
After the reception with drinks and a bites, the Canadian guest curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot will introduce the exhibition. Afterwards Matthias Harder, head curator of the Helmut Newton Foundation, will give an inspiring talk. During his career, Helmut Newton was regarded as one of the greatest photographers in the world. This genuine visionary who created images achieved fortune and fame with his daring work. In October 2003, a few months before his death, he created the Helmut Newton Foundation, dedicated to the conservation and presentation of his own photographic works and those of his wife, June Newton. You can admire various works by Helmut Newton in the exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime.
The preview will be conducted in English. After the introduction and talk you can be among the first to visit the exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime. And of course you won’t go home without a goodiebag!
