Kunsthal Rotterdam presents The Grand Summer Hut
July 14, 2026
Rotterdam-based artist Teuntje Fleur creates a playful and colourful experience for the Kunsthal. This summer, visitors to the Kunsthal are invited to discover The Grand Summer Hut, a playful and colourful experience designed by Rotterdam-based graphic artist Teuntje Fleur. From 4 July to 30 August, the stairs of the Auditorium are transformed into an interactive installation about wandering, searching, and finding.
Inside the Kunsthal Auditorium, an imaginative landscape unfolds: a forest of colourful sculptures through which visitors are free to wander. Along the way, they discover curious viewing boxes that spark wonder, as well as felt shapes that allow them to create their own sculpture for the fantasy forest.

Summer programme for all ages
The Grand Summer Hut follows last year's Grand Summer Art Croquet, which took over the Auditorium stairs at the Kunsthal. Rotterdam-based design duo Studio MAKY created an imaginative croquet course where art and play came together. With initiatives such as The Grand Summer Hut, the Kunsthal offers an accessible and creative meeting place throughout the summer holidays, where visitors of all ages can discover art and imagination through play.
Summer Party in the Kunsthal
The Grand Summer Hut is also part of the programme during the Kunsthal Summer Party on Friday, 17 July, from 15:30 to 20:00 hrs. Visitors can enjoy bites, drinks and music by DJ Git Hyper at the renovated Kunsthal Cafe, take part in a variety of workshops, and explore the exhibitions, including Helen Levitt. City at Play and Flowers Forever. Tickets are available via the Kunsthal website.

Detached from reality
At the heart of the fantasy forest stands a large hut where visitors can read, play together, and take a moment to unwind. This special place finds its origins in the huts Teuntje Fleur built as a child. One of her most vivid memories is creating a world detached from reality: a place where time felt different and where she could spend hours drawing and disappearing into her own imagination. In the hut, fantasy, relaxation, and togetherness take centre stage.
